Minecraft: Java Edition server settings explained
All 69 settings a Minecraft: Java Edition server has on ToastHosting, as its Settings page shows them: what each one does, its default, and the values it takes. Where a setting has a name in the game's own configuration file, that name is shown next to it.
Server
I accept the Minecraft EULA
The server only starts once you accept Mojang's End User License Agreement: https://aka.ms/MinecraftEULA
Server type
Mods need Fabric, NeoForge or Forge; plugins need Paper. Changing it reinstalls the server software on the next start (worlds and settings stay).
Minecraft version
Type latest or a version like 26.3 or 1.21.1. With mods, pick the version your mods are made for; with latest, the Update button installs the newest release.
Loader version
The Fabric, NeoForge, Forge or Paper build: latest (for Forge, its recommended build when there is one) or an exact version.
Advanced
Java memory share
In percent of the memory limit on the Server settings tab: what Java may use for the world, the rest is for Java itself. The default is 75.
Extra Java options
Options added to Java's command line, such as -XX:+UseZGC. Memory comes from the memory limit and the setting above.

Block proxy connections prevent-proxy-connections
Kicks players whose connection comes from another network than the one they signed in to Minecraft from.
Packet limit rate-limit
Kicks players who send too many network packets. 0 switches it off.
Require the resource pack require-resource-pack
Players who decline the resource pack are disconnected.
Resource pack link resource-pack
A download link for a resource pack players are offered when they join, at most 250 MiB.
Resource pack ID resource-pack-id
An optional UUID that tells players' games which pack this is.
Resource pack message resource-pack-prompt
The message shown when players are asked to take the resource pack. Empty shows the game's own.
Resource pack checksum (SHA-1) resource-pack-sha1

Used by Mojang's Realms; leave it empty.
Chat filter format text-filtering-version
The format of the chat filter settings above, 0 or 1.
Faster networking on Linux use-native-transport

Whitelist white-list
Only players on the whitelist can join. Add them in the Console with whitelist add and their name.

Show RCON commands to operators broadcast-rcon-to-ops
Operators who are online see the result of commands sent over RCON.
JMX monitoring enable-jmx-monitoring
Shares tick times with Java monitoring tools; it also needs extra Java options.
RCON (remote console) enable-rcon
Lets admin tools send console commands over the network. It isn't encrypted, so leave it off unless you need it.
Show as online enable-status
When off, the server looks offline in players' server lists, but they can still join.
Mob and item view range entity-broadcast-range-percentage
How far away players see mobs and items, in percent of the normal distance. Lower can reduce lag.
Management protocol management-server-enabled
Lets admin tools control the server over Mojang's management protocol.
Management address management-server-host
The address the management protocol listens on.
Management port management-server-port
The port the management protocol listens on.
Management secret management-server-secret
The key admin tools need to connect, 40 letters and digits. Empty makes a new one.
Management TLS management-server-tls-enabled
Encrypts the management protocol's connections; it needs a keystore.
Management TLS keystore management-server-tls-keystore
The path to the keystore file with the TLS certificate. With TLS on and no keystore, the server won't start.
Management keystore password management-server-tls-keystore-password
The password of the keystore file above.
RCON password rcon.password
The password for RCON; RCON doesn't start while it's empty.
Management heartbeat status-heartbeat-interval

Other
Chained block update limit max-chained-neighbor-updates

Pause when empty pause-when-empty-seconds
In seconds: the world stands still this long after the last player leaves (Minecraft's own pause; the server keeps running).

Writes world changes to disk at once, so a crash loses less; it can slow the server down.
The ports a Minecraft: Java Edition server uses
- 25565/TCP Game
These are Minecraft: Java Edition's standard ports. On ToastHosting each server gets ports of its own; the server page shows the address and port to join with, so there is nothing to forward.
