Garry's Mod server settings explained
All 10 settings a Garry's Mod server has on ToastHosting, as its Settings page shows them: what each one does, its default, and the values it takes. Where a setting has a name in the game's own configuration file, that name is shown next to it.
Server
Server name
The name players see in the server browser. The game calls it hostname.
Join password
Players type it to join. Leave empty so anyone can join.
How many players
The most players online at once.
Start map
The map the server loads first, by its file name, like gm_construct.
RCON password
For remote admin tools. Leave empty to switch RCON off.
Game Server Login Token (GSLT)
Needed to show in the internet server list. Make one on Steam at steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers with app ID 4000.
LAN only
Only players on the same local network can join. Leave it off to play over the internet.
Game mode
The gamemode's name, like sandbox or terrortown. Others, like darkrp, must be installed first.
Workshop collection
The number at the end of the collection's Steam Workshop link. The server downloads its addons.
Advanced
Extra launch options
Extra options added to the game's start command, for people who know the game's own launch flags. Leave it empty otherwise.
The ports a Garry's Mod server uses
- 27015/UDP Game
- 27005/UDP Client
- 27020/UDP SourceTV
These are Garry's Mod's standard ports. On ToastHosting each server gets ports of its own; the server page shows the address and port to join with, so there is nothing to forward.
